For some, casinos are a regular haunt—a place to blow off some steam and have fun. For others, going to a casino is a rare occasion, which can, in turn, create some questions, since the environment is unfamiliar. Based on the number of times that the question “What is the dress code in casinos?” has been asked on travel websites like TripAdvisor, it is clear that ensuring proper casino fashion is a common concern.

Online Casinos

Of course, the ultimate in comfort is your pajamas. Like casinos, offices and other places of work generally have a dress code of some form, and whilst the debate will likely continue for many years about whether working from home is actually beneficial to getting your work done, it does allow you to work in your pajamas (or anything else for that matter). Gaming online (for example, playing blackjack or roulette on your phone or tablet) also provides the benefit of affording flexibility in one’s attire. Yet, whilst you may be able to play in just your pants, putting on a shirt and some long trousers may make you feel a bit more discerning as you play.

Casino Dress Codes

Back in the offline world, naturally each establishment will have its own rules. Just like bars, some will allow trainers, but others will not. Therefore, it is always best to check with the particular casino you intend to go to. As a general rule, the majority of casinos in Las Vegas accept most attire, whilst those in London, for example, tend to be stricter with their requirements.

What isn’t Allowed?

As previously mentioned, Las Vegas seems to allow most outfits. However, the majority of casinos tend to enforce a smart casual dress code. This usually means that workwear, uniforms and sports clothing are not allowed. As a safe bet, assume you won’t be allowed to wear football tops, rugby shirts, vests, trainers, tracksuits or flip flops. And just because the minimum is smart casual doesn’t mean that you can’t exceed this.

Of course, going to a casino is a great excuse to get dressed up. Making yourself look great will help with fitting in at the high-end casinos and will likely make you feel better, too (which can’t be a bad thing!). You don’t need to go full-on black suit and tie like James Bond, but no one will stop you, either.

Fashion on a Budget

If you’re on a budget and would rather spend your cash inside the casino, there are some tricks to get you looking the part without breaking the bank. Head to the richest and poshest area that you know; when you’re there find some charity shops and get to work. You will almost always find expensive designer brands at tiny fractions of the cost you’d pay elsewhere. It might not be new, but there’s a good chance it won’t have been worn many times anyways.

Make Sure You’re Comfy

There’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable when you’re trying to enjoy yourself. Therefore, having an outfit that looks and feels great is important. If you’re on a roll, you don’t want to have to cut it short because your tight clothes are cutting off your blood supply.

Of course, comfy doesn’t always mean casual. A great-fitting suit or dress can be just as comfy as your favourite jeans, with the added benefit of making you look like a winner before you’ve even started playing.

Don’t Forget the Shoes

Comfort doesn’t end at your ankles! Depending on what you’re doing in the casino, you may find yourself standing up for a long period of time. Therefore, it is important to ensure that you have chosen appropriate footwear. As mentioned earlier, trainers may not be allowed, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t put on a pair of shoes that will let you go for hours without being in agony.
