Meet Naleighna Kai, CEO and Founder of Macro Marketing & Promotions Group based in Chicago, USA


1. Please, can our readers get to know you? Briefly introduce yourself to our audience.

I am a USA TODAY and ESSENCE Magazine national bestselling author and literary agent from Chicago who has landed book deals with Simon & Schuster, Harlequin, and an imprint of McMillan.

2. What exactly are you into? What is your business all about? 

They call me the book whisperer, because I’m the person who can help you stop thinking of writing and publishing a book and actually do the damn thing.

3. What inspired you to get started?

I have been in the literary industry for over 20 years, started as an author and then branched out into developmental editing, becoming an agent, then formed several successful writing tribes who write, support, market and promote each other. .

4. What is your educational background?

I attended Chicago Vocational School where I am in the Hall of Fame, College of Automation, and some classes at DePaul University.

5. What are your motivations?

Writing is my calling. I was born to do this to help myself heal and others as well.

6. What advice do you have for other people who want to do this same thing?

Everyone has a story tell. It’s up to you to find the people who will help you tell it well.

7. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In the next 5 years, all of the Tribe members who are ready will receive a book deal with a traditional publisher. The books and series that the Tribe creates and releases will receive critical acclaim in the publishing world.

8. Any present or future projects?

NK”s Tribe Called Success is releasing 3 series this year. The Merry Heart Project, The Pleasures Series and Queens of the Castle Series.

9. What is the biggest challenge you’ve experienced in your business as a person of color?

Overcoming the obstacles of gaining ground in publishing industry as embracing authors of colors have been minimal. Only last year did the door open with the invention of #ownvoices.

10. Are you Married or Single?

Deliciously single.

12. What is your greatest accomplishment?

That I am able to help others realize their dreams of being published. That my son’s first book written at 15 years old and published at 16, helped land him a four-year academic scholarship to Fisk, as well as opened other doors for him. That also includes the fact that he was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

13. As a person of color, what advice will you give someone starting their own business or career?

Find a mentor and emulate the path of those who are successful at what you desire to obtain.
