On Wednesday Victoria Rowell broke her silence regarding the sudden death of her long time “The Young and the Restless” co-star, Kristoff St. John. He was 52-years-old.

St. John’s death reverberated through Hollywood and to his fans and supporters alike, after reports surfaced that he was found on Sunday in his San Fernando Valley Home. While his cause of death is still under investigation by the medical examiner, many have speculated that St. John died from broken heart, spurred from his son’s suicide in 2014. According to TMZ, the actor had recently finished treatment at UCLA Medical Center in January for depression.

Rowell and St. John broke many barriers together, starring as “Drucilla and Neil Winters,” one of daytime Tv’s first Black couples.

“Kristoff was a joy. He lived for the day. He loved working in film, prime time and starring on ‘The Young and the Restless.’ He cared about preserving the African American legacy on the show and not being pigeon-holed into a Black storyline. Obviously, we coveted the Black family on ‘Y&R,’ but we also coveted that we were crossovers,” Rowell said in a statement obtained by MadameNoire.

“Proud we pulled in a huge audience, and a huge Black, female audience. We understood the gravity of what we were responsible for and he took that very seriously.  I shall forever cherish our private and professional time together. Now, is a time for reflection, to mourn his departure and celebrate his brilliance, permanently imprinted on my memory.”

Along with Rowell, many of St. John’s co-stars and fellow actors have expressed their condolences, winded by his death announcement.

“Without Kristoff St. John, there’s no Neil Winters. Without Neil Winters, there’s no opportunity for Malcolm Winters. And without Malcolm Winters, there’s no Shemar Moore,” he said. Moore played St. John’s half-brother, “Malcolm Winters” on several episodes. “And if Shemar Moore didn’t get my chance to try on ‘The Young and the Restless,’ then I don’t sit here today with let alone this career or this life.”

“I would have life, but it would have been on a very different tangent and a very different lane,” Moore continued. “I will always give Kristoff that credit.”

St. John’s final episode is scheduled to air on Wednesday.

Our condolences go out to St. John’s family and friends during this very difficult time.
